tourney nets $19,000 for CHARACTER COUNTS! in
Martin County
The eighth annual Tee It Up for
Character charity golf tournament attracted more
than 100 golfers to Monarch Country Club in Palm
City on April 29.
As the sole fundraiser for
United Way of Martin County’s CHARACTER COUNTS!
program, this year’s golf tournament raised more
than $19,000 for character education activities and
resources throughout Martin County thanks to the
generosity of sponsors, auction bidders, players and
special contributors.
"CHARACTER COUNTS! encourages
good sportsmanship and increases public awareness of
the importance of core ethical values," CHARACTER
COUNTS! Director Holly Laiben said. "This golf
fundraiser will help to ensure these activities
continue."
All participants enjoyed a
buffet dinner following the tournament featuring a
live auction with auctioneer Elliot Paul, of Elliot
Paul & Co., who auctioned off golf foursomes at
McArthur, Loblolly, The Medalist, Willoughby,
Piper’s Landing and Harbour Ridge, as well as a
photo session with Dultmeier Photography and a
western Martin County RV excursion and brunch with
hosts Butch and Jan Bayley.
Raffle prizes were also given
out and included foursomes at Lost Lake and The Club
at Pointe West, gift certificates for Peter’s Steak
House, Courtine’s, Just Gold Jewelers, tickets for
the Atlantic Classical Orchestra and to the Library
Foundation of Martin County’s 2011 BookMania Meet
the Authors Cocktail Party.
Additionally, each par-3 hole
had a hole-in-one prize, including a 2010 Buick
LaCrosse and other gifts courtesy of Carl’s
Buick-Pontiac-GMC and a resort getaway courtesy of
Monarch Country Club.

CHARACTER COUNTS! golf tourney
raises $20,000
One
hundred golfers enjoyed beautiful weather and challenging greens
during the Seventh Annual “Tee It UP” for CHARACTER charity golf
tournament April 30 at Monarch Country Club in Palm City.
This
year’s event raised nearly raised nearly $20,000 as the sole
fundraiser for CHARACTER COUNTS!, a program of United Way of
Martin County, that provides character-building activities in
schools, civic organizations and businesses.
"CHARACTER COUNTS! encourages good sportsmanship and increases
public awareness of the importance of core ethical values,"
CHARACTER COUNTS! Director Holly Laiben said. "This golf
fundraiser will help to ensure these activities continue."
CHARACTER
COUNTS! also teamed up with Clubs for a Cause, a program that
offers any golf tournament the ability to raise additional funds
by collecting best used clubs, to amass more than 500 golf clubs
from participants, Golf USA and Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin
County, and members of private courses including Monarch,
Piper’s Landing, Martin Downs, Palm Cove, The Fox Club,
Willoughby and Lost Lake.

Players supporting CHARACTER COUNTS! in
Martin County had a day full of enjoyment, contests and prizes
at the annual Tee It Up for Character Charity Golf Tournament
April 24 at Monarch Country Club.
The tournament
is the one-and-only fund-raiser for
the CHARACTER COUNTS! program, which
provides character-building
activities in schools, civic
organizations and businesses. This
year, the event netted about $23,000
thanks to sponsors, auction bidders
and a record 144 players.

The sixth
annual event featured an exciting
new addition this year: The
$10,000 Shoot-Out Putting Contest,
sponsored by John Pierson’s Toyota
of Stuart. For a $20 fee, entrants
competed for the chance to sink a
50-foot putt worth $10,000.

scramble was followed by a buffet, awards ceremony and
auction.

The second annual “Tee It Up for Character” tournament drew 112 generous
golfers to Monarch Country Club on April 22, 2004, making for a fun and
successful fund-raiser for CHARACTER COUNTS!, a program of the United
Way of Martin County.

support of the program.

Sandie St. Onge (pictured), two-time
club champion at Yacht & Country Club and salesperson for
Adelphia Media Services, volunteered her time and golfing
skills for the event in a “closest to the pin” challenge.
The raffle winner of “The Challenge” was Tony Alan, who won
a new Ping putter and a golf foursome donated by Mariner
Sands.

Country Club team of Roger Loeffelbein, Rick Wentworth, Bob
Jackson and Jeff Dando with a 59.
Following a buffet dinner, golfers competed again
at the auction table – vying for tempting golf packages at The Medalist
and Loblolly, weekend getaways at Pirates Cove Resort and Holiday Inn
Oceanside, as well as fishing trips, massages, days of beauty, and even
a weekend getaway for the family pet!

signs, allowed us to offer the players a first-class golfing
experience."

The inaugural golf tournament to benefit
CHARACTER COUNTS! was deemed a success by chairman Duane Raab.
Twenty-three foursomes enjoyed a day of lunch, golf and barbecue
on April 25, 2003. More than $8,000 of the funds raised went
directly to CC! initiatives.
